- I had the same problem with my new Dell. Try grabbing the latest S3 driver set,
- S3_V132. This seemed to clear things up for me.

- Seems like a bad investment (the subnotebook) - nearly obsolete right out
- of the box. For a 386 to only run in standard mode is probably an indication
- of not enough RAM (2Mb or less?). If the RAM can be substantially upgraded
- (4-8Mb), then perhaps enhanced mode is possible and solves your problem. If
- not, then a lot more than SLIP is going to be bothering you - too little
- RAM is going to make EVERYTHING in Windows run poorly and erratically.
- Something else to look out for is hard disk size - I got a Gateway 486
- notebook (8Mb) that runs all my WFW 3.11 stuff great, but the 120Mb disk
- vanished in no time to today's disk hungry apps (half my apps are zip'd
- so I can run the other half). Have you looked into Gateway's notebooks -
- the 486's with 4Mb (or more) might be a better investment.
-
- Saw your previous post, also, - yeah NetManage's Chameleon can be a finnicky
- little lizard (almost as bad as my cat). All I can suggest is to free up
- as much low (DOS) memory as possible - don't load any unnecessary TSR's or
- drivers, and use memmaker (or whatever) to get them all loaded high if you
- can. If you have EMS enabled, but don't ever run any DOS programs that
- require EMM support, then disabling this will free the 64k page frame in
- upper memory and let you load more stuff high. I've got about 600k of low
- memory free before Windows loads - seems to help.
